Joint A&WMA and AEP Special Program Beyond Business As Usual: Addressing GHG emission impacts in a post 2020 environment

October 25, 2018 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

$20

The A&WMA CIC Chapter and the Channel Counties Chapter of the Association of Environmental Professionals (AEP) are pleased to jointly host a presentation dinner meeting featuring Michael Hendrix.

Many California cities and counties do not presently have a Climate Action Plan (CAP) in place and may not have one adopted by 2020. This presentation by industry-leading expert, Michael Hendrix, explores strategies for CEQA practitioners to defensibly analyze GHG emission impacts and thresholds of significance both now and in a post 2020 environment.

Mr. Michael Hendrix is among California’s leading climate change and air quality scientists.  Through the California AEP Climate Change Committee, Mr. Hendrix has advised the Governor’s Office of Planning and Research (OPR) in updating the CEQA Guidelines to include greenhouse gas (GHG) emission impacts.  Mr. Hendrix served as a technical advisor to the South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD) in the development of CEQA Thresholds of Significance for GHG emissions.  He is the recent recipient of the AEP “Professional Achievement Award.” AEP specifically recognized that “his commitment to balancing the need for industrial, commercial and residential development projects in California with the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and air pollution is evident through his dedication to air quality evaluations and mitigation that significantly reduce air pollution generated by the expansion of these markets.”  Mr. Hendrix is also a longtime member of the Air and Waste Management Association (AWMA), works with the AWMA Climate Change Committee, and chairs the committee organizing the 2019 AWMA Climate Change Conference that will occur in California.

Mr. Hendrix is the current Chairperson of the AEP Climate Change Committee.  In that capacity, he provides leadership within AEP on the issue of climate change and analysis of greenhouse gas emissions.  Under Michael’s leadership, the AEP Climate Change Committee has produced ten white papers over the last eleven years.  Many of these white papers have influenced the course of GHG emissions analysis statewide.  These white papers have been cited as authoritative guidance by agencies including OPR, the California Department of Transportation (CalTrans), SCAQMD, and the State of New York Department of Environmental Conservation.
