CSUCI Campus Biodiversity BioBlitz

BE A PART OF A CAMPUS-WIDE EVENT INVOLVING SPECIES IDENTIFICATION!

The BioBlitz is a new form of citizen science that has emerged in recent years. This type of ecological survey’s cost-effective and quick form of data collection make it an easy way to survey a given area’s biodiversity. Since the inception of California State University Channel Islands in 2002, no formal ecological survey of the campus’s biodiversity has been conducted. The goal of this project was to conduct an all-inclusive survey for the local and CSUCI communities to exhibit the significance of both biodiversity and citizen science. For the designated biodiversity, we surveyed three different biome types: edge, campus, and native. Within these zones, we performed ecological surveys on and around the CSUCI campus. This was to help to create a baseline that will set up campus-wide BioBlitz events in the future.
