National Public Lands Day- Lion Canyon Trail Maintenance, Thomas Fire Restoration, Ventura Backcountry

The LPFA will be partnering with the Thomas Fire Trail Fund (TF2), the Ojai Ranger District, REI and others to host a trail project along the beautiful Lion Canyon Trail outside of Rose Valley on the edge of the Sespe Wilderness. There has been no serious trailwork accomplished on this trail since the Thomas Fire and we’re hoping to make a big push towards bringing this excellent multi-use trail back to life.

The plan is to meet at Middle Lion Campground before 8am on Saturday September 28. *Camping may be available Friday night if needed, contact us (Volunteer@LPForest.org) if interested. The tailgate talk will start at 8am and shortly after that we’ll break into teams to start the trail project. We’ll plan on working until 2pm or it gets too hot along the trail (fingers crossed for cool weather). Everyone should be back at Middle Lion by 3pm and from there we’ll return to nearby Wheeler Gorge Visitor Center for a BBQ, prize raffle and trail-ebration!

Post event BBQ and select beverages for the day will be provided, please bring any food, drink, lunch and snacks that you’ll need for the day. All tools and PPE will be provided, please wear sturdy boots, long sleeved shirt, pants and safety glasses (sunglasses are fine). We’ll have hard hats and gloves but you might want to bring your own if you have them (bike helmet is fine). Let us know if you have any questions…
