SUMMARY:Round Mountain Restoration Project
DESCRIPTION:CSU Channel Islands invites students\, alumni\, faculty and staff to roll up their sleeves and participate in Round Mountain/hukisunupahani lo’ka’aliyaš ’isatʰwiwa (we restore the path to sathwiwa) Project on Saturday\, September 21\, 2019 from 8:00AM -1:30PM. Located on the CSUCI campus\, Round Mountain\, sathwiwa\, is sacred to the Chumash people\, where ceremonies were conducted in the past and will be again. The first step to restoring this place of cultural significance is to create a trail to the top. The existing route\, a former road\, is in poor condition and covered with brush. Trail restoration will convert the road into a walking trail\, provide erosion control measures\, restore native plants\, and provide trail identification and educational signage. Participants will be clearing brush and removing root balls. All restoration effort is physical work and all volunteers will be using hand tools. DESCRIPTION:Join Surfrider for their monthly beach clean-up! For all beach cleanups\, please wear comfortable clothes\, closed toed shoes and sunscreen. All volunteers are welcome to participate and must sign a liability waiver\, but volunteers under 18 MUST have a parent or guardian present at the beginning of the cleanup to sign a liability waiver before the minor can participate. We will provide all supplies\, but volunteers are always welcome to bring their own work gloves\, trash bag/bucket\, and/or reusable water bottle to reduce waste. Please be prepared to fill out a data card of all the trash you pick up—we need this information to help find the sources of trash on our beaches!! DESCRIPTION:Join VLT staff at the Ventura River estuary to help chop\, pull\, and lop non-native\, invasive plant species and/or remove trash and refuse that are wreaking havoc on our native riparian ecosystem! In May\, we will be working at the Willoughby Preserve. \n\n\nRiver Restoration events are a part of VLT’s ongoing efforts to bring the Ventura River back to its natural state and make it more welcoming to human and wildlife visitors alike. Please wear pants\, long sleeves\, closed-toe shoes\, and don’t forget sunscreen and water. We’ll provide the tools\, you provide the enthusiasm!\n\n\n\n\n\nMeet VLT staff at 9 a.m. next to the Main St. Bridge along the bike path near downtown Ventura (at Main St. & Peking Streets). We will gather next to the Land Trust’s beautiful informational kiosk. Please wear pants\, long sleeves\, closed-toe shoes\, and don’t forget sunscreen and water!\n\n\n\nPlease note: River cleanup volunteers must be at least 16 years old. Due to the nature of tools used and bio-hazardous materials occasionally found in the river estuary\, we do not encourage young children to participate in these events. DESCRIPTION:Join Mountains Restoration Trust to help restore native upland and riparian habitats at Headwaters Corner right off of Mulholland Highway. Volunteers will be collecting seed from native plants around the site. DESCRIPTION:Come help us remove crayfish from your creeks and streams! Crayfish are a non-native species to California\, and they’re considered invasive because they cause quite a bit of damage to the aquatic ecosystems. They prey on native species\, reduce water quality\, and cause problems with creek bed erosion. We need your help in trapping and removing the crayfish as well as picking up trash along the stream. \nPARKING: You are free to park anywhere within reason. This is near a residential area\, so please be respectful of the folks who live there! \nOur staff will meet volunteers on the Medea Creek Trail\, which starts at the corner of Conifer Street and Parkview Drive. \nVolunteers under the age of 18 must bring the Parental Consent Form with a parent or guardian’s signature if the parent or guardian is not attending. \nRegistration is free\, but required. SUMMARY:Crayfish Removal Open House
DESCRIPTION:Come help us remove crayfish from your creeks and streams! Crayfish are a non-native species to California\, and they’re considered invasive because they cause quite a bit of damage to the aquatic ecosystems. They prey on native species\, reduce water quality\, and cause problems with creek bed erosion. We need your help in trapping and removing the crayfish as well as picking up trash along the stream. \nPARKING: You are free to park anywhere within reason. This is near a residential area\, so please be respectful of the folks who live there! \nOur staff will meet volunteers on the Medea Creek Trail\, which starts at the corner of Conifer Street and Parkview Drive. \nVolunteers under the age of 18 must bring the Parental Consent Form with a parent or guardian’s signature if the parent or guardian is not attending. \nRegistration is free\, but required. Registered volunteers will receive an email confirmation with more details.

SUMMARY:Monthly Beach Clean-Up
DESCRIPTION:Meet on the beach promenade at the end of California Street. \nFor all beach cleanups\, please wear comfortable clothes\, closed toed shoes and sunscreen. All volunteers are welcome to participate and must sign a liability waiver\, but volunteers under 18 MUST have a parent or guardian present at the beginning of the cleanup to sign a liability waiver before the minor can participate. Pre-registration is NOT required unless your group is larger than 25 people (if it is\, then email beachcleanups@ventura.surfrider.org ) We will provide all supplies\, but volunteers are always welcome to bring their own work gloves\, trash bag/bucket\, and/or reusable water bottle to reduce waste. Please be prepared to fill out a data card of all the trash you pick up—we need this information to help find the sources of trash on our beaches!! Thank you for your interest in helping keep our beaches clean.

DESCRIPTION:Join the Ventrua Land Trust staff at the Ventura River estuary to help chop\, pull\, and lop non-native\, invasive plant species and/or remove trash and refuse that are wreaking havoc on our native riparian ecosystem! This month we are working at the Willoughby Preserve. \n\n\nRiver Restoration events are a part of VLT’s ongoing efforts to bring the Ventura River back to its natural state and make it more welcoming to human and wildlife visitors alike. Please wear pants\, long sleeves\, closed-toe shoes\, and don’t forget sunscreen and water. Harmon Canyon suffered significant fire damage and invasive grasses and forbes are trying to out compete the native species for the prime real-estate. \nVentura Land Trust is currently in the escrow for this fantastic preserve\, this process could take over a year before we can purchase the property. In the meantime\, there is plenty of work to be done! We will be working on clearing brush to reduce fire hazards and building trails for the public to enjoy once we have our grand opening. \nAll volunteers should wear pants\, long sleeves\, closed-toe shoes\, and don’t forget sunscreen and a water bottle! We will have water for refills available. We provide the tools; you provide the enthusiasm! \n  \nThis property is currently CLOSED TO THE PUBLIC except for special volunteer restoration events.

DESCRIPTION:Come join Mountains Restoration Trust as we work with the National Park Service to restore native habitat in Newbury Park. You’ll be helping to maintain the land by removing invasive plants\, mulching\, and watering. We are working to return this critical habitat back to the oak woodland it once was after years of ranching and farming. The natives you will be maintaining include Coast Live Oak\, Valley Oak\, Western Sycamore\, and supporting vegetation in a riparian flood plain\, alongside Potrero Creek. \nAll Volunteers will need to bring the Volunteer Service Agreement signed and ready to go! \nVolunteers under the age of 18\, must bring this form with a parent or guardian’s signature if the parent or guardian is not attending. \nRegistration is FREE\, but is required.
