SUMMARY:La Jolla Valley Trail Maintenance
DESCRIPTION:Join Santa Monica Mountains Trails Council on March 13th\, 14th\, and 15th at Pt Mugu State Park for Trail Maintenance and camp of La Jolla Valley.  \n8:30AM We will work from a spike camp at the La Jolla Valley walk-in camp. Camping is optional. For campers we will carpool in at 8:30 on Friday. Transportation will be provided for those working Saturday or for camping Saturday night. Camp will break at noon on Sunday. Bring your own food and beverages. Gas BBQ and water for cleaning and showering (shower tent) will be provided. Be punctual. \nSometimes we may hike a mile or two to the work site.  \nWe generally work until 2:30 with some variation (rain\, heat or we run out of work) \nView the Calendar and select a time and place where you would like to work. \nCall the Leader listed for the date you selected to let him/her know you are coming. \nWatch the Training and Safety Video and follow the instructions. \nReview the “Know Before you Go” Page. \nReview the mini “Trail Work Guide”. \nBring water and lunch. \nWear sturdy shoes or boots\, long pants\, work gloves\, hat\, long sleeve shirt and eye protection.

SUMMARY:Monarch Madness Pollinator Planting Party
DESCRIPTION:On Saturday\, March 14th\, from 9 am – 12 noon\, join VLT for a fun family-friendly pollinator planting event at Harmon Canyon Preserve. This will be our first Monarch Madness event at Harmon Canyon\, so come on out and be part of this historical event! We will plant pollinator plants\, including milkweed\, that attract butterflies. \nMonarch butterflies need milkweed plants to survive – their caterpillars only eat milkweed and Monarch moms lay their eggs on the milkweed plant. Milkweed habitat loss is the biggest short-term threat to the migration of Monarch butterflies. \nJoin VLT volunteers as we pitch in to provide essential habitat for the migrating Monarchs and other insects\, birds and mammals. We will bring the gloves\, shovels and milkweed plants; you bring the enthusiasm! \nPark FREE at Missionary Church\, immediately adjacent to Harmon Canyon. The event will kick off at 9AM with a short Monarch presentation and a quick planting demonstration. \nPlease wear sturdy shoes\, long pants\, a hat\, sunscreen and bring a water bottle.
