SUMMARY:Crayfish Removal Open House
DESCRIPTION:Come help us remove crayfish from your creeks and streams! Crayfish are a non-native species to California\, and they’re considered invasive because they cause quite a bit of damage to the aquatic ecosystems. They prey on native species\, reduce water quality\, and cause problems with creek bed erosion. We need your help in trapping and removing the crayfish as well as picking up trash along the stream. \nPARKING: You are free to park anywhere within reason. This is near a residential area\, so please be respectful of the folks who live there! \nOur staff will meet volunteers on the Medea Creek Trail\, which starts at the corner of Conifer Street and Parkview Drive. \nVolunteers under the age of 18 must bring the Parental Consent Form with a parent or guardian’s signature if the parent or guardian is not attending. \nRegistration is free\, but required. Registered volunteers will receive an email confirmation with more details.

SUMMARY:Headwaters Corner Habitat Restoration
DESCRIPTION:Join Mountains Restoration Trust to help restore native upland and riparian habitats at Headwaters Corner right off of Mulholland Highway. Volunteers will be collecting seed from native plants around the site. They will also participate in weeding invasive plants to restore our native habitat and prevent competition with natives. \nPlease arrive by 8:45am in the parking lot off of Mulholland Highway. The parking lot is a small mulch-covered lot that abuts MRT’s office – a small white house. If possible\, please carpool. In the event that the parking lot fills up\, overflow parking will be available at Wild Walnut Park. Please bring a hat\, water\, snack\, and sturdy shoes. Gloves and tools provided. Receive community service credit \nRegistration is Required: Registered volunteers will receive an email confirmation with more details. \n

SUMMARY:Volunteer Audubon Center at Debs Park
DESCRIPTION:Come out and volunteer with the National Audubon Society! Join us in and around our native plant nursery where we propagate plants and maintain habitat restoration sites. Activities include watering\, weeding\, mulching\, berm building and repair\,  seed collection\, processing and sowing\, potting\, and planting. Learn about native plants and local bird species as you restore important native habitat within more than 17 acres around the center. Put your hands in some soil and bird while you build habitat! We need you\, but more importantly\, our neighBIRDS need you! \nBe sure to bring lots of water\, sun protection\, and clothes you don’t mind getting dirty! Remember to wear closed-toe shoes and dress in layers.
