SUMMARY:Crayfish Removal Open House
DESCRIPTION:Come help us remove crayfish from your creeks and streams! Crayfish are a non-native species to California\, and they’re considered invasive because they cause quite a bit of damage to the aquatic ecosystems. They prey on native species\, reduce water quality\, and cause problems with creek bed erosion. We need your help in trapping and removing the crayfish as well as picking up trash along the stream. \nPARKING: You are free to park anywhere within reason. This is near a residential area\, so please be respectful of the folks who live there! \nOur staff will meet volunteers on the Medea Creek Trail\, which starts at the corner of Conifer Street and Parkview Drive. \nVolunteers under the age of 18 must bring the Parental Consent Form with a parent or guardian’s signature if the parent or guardian is not attending. \nRegistration is free\, but required. Registered volunteers will receive an email confirmation with more details.

SUMMARY:Potrero Creek Restoration
DESCRIPTION:Come join Mountains Restoration Trust as we work with the National Park Service to restore native habitat in Newbury Park. You’ll be helping to maintain the land by removing invasive plants\, mulching\, and watering. We are working to return this critical habitat back to the oak woodland it once was after years of ranching and farming. The natives you will be maintaining include Coast Live Oak\, Valley Oak\, Western Sycamore\, and supporting vegetation in a riparian flood plain\, alongside Potrero Creek. \nAll Volunteers will need to bring the Volunteer Service Agreement signed and ready to go! \nVolunteers under the age of 18\, must bring this form with a parent or guardian’s signature if the parent or guardian is not attending. \nRegistration is FREE\, but is required. DESCRIPTION:“There is work that is isolating\, harsh\, destructive\, specialized or trivialized into meaninglessness. And there is work that is restorative\, convivial\, dignified and dignifying\, and pleasing.”  -Wendell Berry \nFarming an acre with volunteers is no small feat. Many hands are needed\, and we welcome yours. We invite you to come dig\, weed\, learn\, teach\, ask questions\, take a shift on irrigation\, cook for our Saturday meals\, share ideas\, or donate materials or funding. You can help in whatever way you’d like. Volunteering with us is rewarding because it is tangible—you can watch it grow!—and for the simple satisfaction of working with others on something meaningful. Working in the garden is also a fun way to complete needed community service hours. \n  \n\n\nWork/Play Days\nWednesdays 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. \nSaturdays 9:00 a.m. – 1 p.m. (Lunch provided at 11:00 a.m.) \nFor more information on volunteering\, contact us at 805-616-2326.\n\n  \nIf you’d like to volunteer in the garden\, please bring a sunhat and sturdy shoes. DESCRIPTION:Come help out at the Oxnard earth day event by working with kids to make Plover Pals!
