SUMMARY:Crayfish Removal Open House
DESCRIPTION:Come help us remove crayfish from your creeks and streams! Crayfish are a non-native species to California\, and they’re considered invasive because they cause quite a bit of damage to the aquatic ecosystems. They prey on native species\, reduce water quality\, and cause problems with creek bed erosion. We need your help in trapping and removing the crayfish as well as picking up trash along the stream. \nPARKING: You are free to park anywhere within reason. This is near a residential area\, so please be respectful of the folks who live there! \nOur staff will meet volunteers on the Medea Creek Trail\, which starts at the corner of Conifer Street and Parkview Drive. \nThis event is great fun for volunteers of all ages! Volunteers 12 years or younger must be accompanied by an adult. Volunteers under the age of 18 must bring the Parental Consent Form with a parent or guardian’s signature if the parent or guardian is not attending. \nRegistration is free\, but required. Registered volunteers will receive an email confirmation with more details. \nHave more questions? SUMMARY:Monthly Beach Cleanup
DESCRIPTION:Meet on the beach promenade at the end of California Street. \nFor all beach cleanups\, please wear comfortable clothes\, closed toed shoes and sunscreen. All volunteers are welcome to participate and must sign a liability waiver\, but volunteers under 18 MUST have a parent or guardian present at the beginning of the cleanup to sign a liability waiver before the minor can participate. Pre-registration is NOT required unless your group is larger than 25 people (if it is\, then email beachcleanups@ventura.surfrider.org ) We will provide all supplies\, but volunteers are always welcome to bring their own work gloves\, trash bag/bucket\, and/or reusable water bottle to reduce waste. Please be prepared to fill out a data card of all the trash you pick up—we need this information to help find the sources of trash on our beaches!! Thank you for your interest in helping keep our beaches clean.

DESCRIPTION:“There is work that is isolating\, harsh\, destructive\, specialized or trivialized into meaninglessness. And there is work that is restorative\, convivial\, dignified and dignifying\, and pleasing.”  -Wendell Berry \nFarming an acre with volunteers is no small feat. Many hands are needed\, and we welcome yours. We invite you to come dig\, weed\, learn\, teach\, ask questions\, take a shift on irrigation\, cook for our Saturday meals\, share ideas\, or donate materials or funding. You can help in whatever way you’d like. Volunteering with us is rewarding because it is tangible—you can watch it grow!—and for the simple satisfaction of working with others on something meaningful. Working in the garden is also a fun way to complete needed community service hours. \n  \n\n\nWork/Play Days\nWednesdays 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. \nSaturdays 9:00 a.m. – 1 p.m. (Lunch provided at 11:00 a.m.) \nFor more information on volunteering\, contact us at 805-616-2326.\n\n  \nIf you’d like to volunteer in the garden\, please bring a sunhat and sturdy shoes.
