DESCRIPTION:Farming an acre with volunteers is no small feat. Many hands are needed\, and we welcome yours. We invite you to come dig\, weed\, learn\, teach\, ask questions\, take a shift on irrigation\, cook for our Saturday meals\, share ideas\, or donate materials or funding. You can help in whatever way you’d like. Volunteering with us is rewarding because it is tangible—you can watch it grow!—and for the simple satisfaction of working with others on something meaningful. Working in the garden is also a fun way to complete needed community service hours. \n  \n\n\nWork/Play Days\nWednesdays 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. \nSaturdays 9:00 a.m. – 1 p.m. (Lunch provided at 11:00 a.m.) \nFor more information on volunteering\, contact us at 805-616-2326.\n\n  \nIf you’d like to volunteer in the garden\, please bring a sunhat and sturdy shoes. SUMMARY:Managing (the Waves on) Our Coasts
DESCRIPTION:Wednesday\, October 10\, 2018 – \n6:00pm to 7:00pm\n\nAssistant Professor of Environmental Science and Resource Management Dan Reineman will visit the Ojai Library at 1 p.m. on Saturday\, October 6\, 2018\, and the E.P. Foster Library at 6 p.m. on Wednesday\, October 10\, 2018\, to deliver a presentation titled “Managing (the Waves on) Our Coasts.” Reineman comes to us from CSU Channel Islands (CI) and is presenting as part of the Ventura County Library’s One County\, One Book program.\n\n\nCalifornia’s coast is full of important resources\, from fisheries and oil to tourism destinations like the Channel Islands. To manage any resource well\, we need information—data—about it. Waves for surfing are among the most important resources in coastal California. They support the recreation of millions and shape the economies and cultures of many coastal communities; surfing is now our official state sport. \nBut where will we get the data we need to ensure that waves and surfing can continue on our coasts? In this talk\, Reineman will expand on some of the key themes William Finnegan develops in Barbarian Days and connect them directly to contemporary coastal management challenges in California and right here in Ventura. Surfers might be at the heart of the issue\, but they share that space with anyone else who enjoys visiting the coast in California. \nThis event is free and open to the public.
